Unsafe Blinds

Big Box stores like Home Depot, Costco, Lowes and the like have become a staple for the modern consumer.  What they give up in personality or service they accommodate for in saving us some of our almighty dollars, and while we wistfully mention the bygone era of the gray haired hardware store proprietor who seemed to know everything and care about our kitchen sink, we still shop at Wal-Mart and Ikea because the deals are so good.

This usually works out great, but there are some exceptions.  Since this is a blog about cheap blinds, we call your focus to the other kind of cheap - low quality.  A well known swedish import furniture company and some other stores have been the subject of several blinds recalls.  If you google 'blinds recalls' you'll see this company and stories of death from children getting tangled in the cords on page 1 at the time of this writing.

It's a terrible thing, but easy to avoid.  Buy quality blinds that don't have cord loops if you have small children around.  Buy from quality retailers that carry permanent brands that they stand behind, not transient imports.
